Typical Exchange Visits

Exchange visits take place every year, usually in May. In 2007 we visited Triel-sur-Seine and in 2008 a party of 55 visited Leatherhead, both journeys were by private coach, The itineraries for both weekends are detailed below to give an idea of a typical exchange visit.

2007 Exchange Visit to Triel

FRIDAY
An early start (0615) to board the coach at Leatherhead. After a leisurely drive with several stops we arrived in Triel at around 1630 to be met by our host families and to spend the evening en famille.

SATURDAY
In the morning we attended a Civic Reception given by the Mayor, Monsieur Houllemare, which was followed by aperitifs and buffet lunch. We then went on a guided walking tour of Triel to work up appetite for the Gala Dinner at La Salle Grelbin where we entertained by an amazing with magician!

SUNDAY
Wine tasting followed by an indoor pique-nique then a visit to Monet’s garden at Giverney. Evening en famille with hosts. < /p>

MONDAY
In the morning at the more civilized time of 0830 we left Triel. On our journey home we had 2 very enjoyable breaks. The first was at the Château de Chantilly where we had a guided tour and lunch. We made good time so we were able to visit the Cité Europe for those last minute cheese and wine purchases before we caught our 1920 Eurotunnel crossing back to England.


2008 Exchange Visit to Leatherhead

THURSDAY
In the afternoon host families meet their guests from the coach at Leatherhead Leisure Centre and spend the evening at home with their guests.

FRIDAY
The day starts with the guests travelling by coach to London. We meet up with them at the Tate Modern then walk along the South Bank to the Embankment Pier to board the Symphony for a a circular riverboat cruise and enjoy a three course lunch. A walk through Trafalgar Square and along Whitehall, is followed by a tour of the Houses of Parliament with French and English guides. The early evening is spent back at home for a light supper the for those who wish an informal viewing of Leatherhead Art Club Exhibition at Leatherhead Parish Church.

SATURDAY
In the morning we meet for a Civic Reception with light refreshments at Leatherhead Register Office attended by Cllr Jean Pearson, Chairman of Mole Valley Council. After lunch with their hosts, the afternoon is spent visiting Wimbledon Museum and enjoying a cream tea. The day ends with the grand finale - a Big Band Dinner Dance with 16-piece band at Leatherhead Parish Church Hall.

SUNDAY
After an early breakfast with our guests, the coach leaves Leatherhead Leisure Centre at 0830 for the return trip to Triel.
